Family & Food

Since this weekend's wedding took place on a Friday, I got to take today off! It's my last Saturday free before I go back to Elon, and I knew I wanted to relax yet have a fun time. And since I'm going to back to Elon on Monday, I decided that there wasn't a better way to spend the day than with my family enjoying the treats that Winston-Salem has to offer. I started off my afternoon by going to lunch with my siblings at The Village Tavern. We used to go there all the time when we were younger because we love their "floppy chips," as we like to call them.

They're freshly fried (that seems quite contradictory) potato chips that come with ranch dressing. And boy are they addicting! That's my brother Nicholas as the lovely hand model.

I ordered the Tenderloin salad, which was a salad served in a huge crispy tortilla shell with filet mignon, salsa, lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, and black olives. It also came with a side of ranch dressing, but I had had my fill of that with the chips. Luckily the salsa acted as a pretty good dressing itself!

After lunch, we went to Michael's to take advantage of tax free weekend and some coupons that I had. I've been wanting a sketchbook for quite some time now, so I purchased one sketchbook that I'll use for drawing (the white one) and one for watercolor. I've always been better with pencil than watercolor, so I was thrilled to find these watercolor pencils that allow you to sketch with the pencil and then use a wet paintbrush to blend and shade the drawings!

Once I got home, I had a relaxing evening lounging around and finishing season one of Breaking Bad. Then, dad wanted to hang out so we went to Brynn's Frozen Yogurt for dessert.

I got a mix of three different flavors- peanut butter and banana, brownie batter, and sea salt caramel. I think the peanut butter and banana was my favorite. I topped it all off with some Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, toffee bits, butterscotch chips, chocolate syrup, and one little brownie bite. I kind of went a bit overboard on the toppings but it was still pretty good!

Today was exactly what I wanted it to be. I even checked a few things off of the bucket list I created the other day:

  1. Hang out with my siblings more frequently. Oh and make sure that my parents know how much I love them.
  2. Get a sketchbook and some colored pencils so I can draw designs when they pop into my head.
  3. Finish at least Season Two of Breaking Bad. I’m on Season One now and it’s starting to get addicting, even though I thought I’d hate it at first. (Finished Season One!)
  4. Enter all of the important dates and events into my new planner. (I did this the other day)

I'd say today was definitely a successful last free Saturday :)
