Our Southern Wedding | Our Wedding Reception Design
I cannot believe that the posts I've been sharing in Our Southern Wedding blog series are almost coming to an end! Today, I'm going to be sharing all of our wedding reception design details with y'all!
I absolutely adore these reception photos miss Perry Vaile captured for us, and the wonderful wedding film by Casey and Kristin featuring our wedding cake smash! Make sure to read our feature and interview on the Southern Weddings blog for more details!
We had so much fun pulling together the table design and coordinating day-of details for our wedding reception! Since we had such a wide range of colors in our color palette (blush, peach, fuchsia, navy, French blue, gold), we really got to add in a lot of fun colors and textures to our table decor! I love the mix-matched peach linens, some solid and some with a fun pattern, paired with French blue striped napkins, soft blue taper candles, and colorful blush, fuchsia, and peach centerpieces!
The Rebecca Rose Events team did such a gorgeous job of bringing my design vision to life on our wedding day! And, didn't we truly luck out with these gorgeous chairs? They are the chairs that come along with this beautiful ballroom at Gettysvue, and they were the perfect blend of comfortable and classic with their ivory tones and deep wood color! I love that they were a little something different than the standard chiavari chairs!
I had such a fun time designing the day-of paper details to coordinate with our table design! After picking up their calligraphy escort cards, guests then found their tables with envelope table numbers lined with a floral pattern and soft pink calligraphy numbers. A big part of our wedding design was centered around the love letters Zack and I wrote to each other while we were dating, and these were a play off of that! The square size of these was perfect to tuck underneath our colorful centerpieces, and I love the pop of navy to the overall aesthetic!
Menus can often be an overlooked design element, but I wanted to make these as gorgeous as the rest of our wedding stationery! In order to keep with our whimsical, fun personalities, I illustrated icons of all of our food choices on the wedding menu. The watercolor blue crab and cute little pink shrimp might be my favorites! To tie the design into our other elements, I added florals around the border to complement the envelopes liners in the table numbers, and added our watercolor wedding crest at the top of the menu!
While guests were waiting for dinner to start, we asked them to sign our guest book. In lieu of a traditional guest book, I created a custom watercolor wedding portrait of Zack and me in our wedding attire on the rolling greens of Gettysvue overlooking my favorite white house in the background. We asked our guests to sign their names and a short and sweet little note on the mat of our picture frame. This painting is now hanging in our living room, and I love having the names of all of our loved ones in the heart of our home! I have created these watercolor wedding painting guest book alternatives for my sweet brides throughout the years, and it was so special to finally create one for the two of us!
While certain elements of our wedding were traditional, our wedding cake definitely was not! We knew we wanted to have fun with the design, and also have a couple of delicious flavors. We chose a delicate dusty blue for the bottom tier cake color, with sweeping gold brushstrokes on the base tier to reflect the painted elements throughout our wedding design. To balance the more unique cake design, we kept things simple with a two-tier cake adorned with one beautiful blush peony and a few eucalyptus leaves.
The cake flavors are what really won us over with our cake designer, Art of Cakes Bakery! We selected two flavors, English toffee and strawberry. Zack loved the strawberry flavor, and I loved that it was pink!
See those beautiful crystal champagne flutes? They are the same flutes my parents toasted with at our wedding. I loved being able to use these heirloom pieces as a part of our wedding celebration!
My dad gave such a beautiful blessing and toast, and I just have to share it with y'all! We were still tucked away downstairs signing our marriage certificate, and I was so sad we had to miss this in person! Luckily our sweet friends recorded it for us!
Just as Debra and Steve welcome a daughter into their family today and Joanne and I welcome a son into ours, we want to take a moment and welcome all of you to share in this beautiful day God has given us to celebrate Zack and Jessica uniting in marriage.
We give a heartfelt welcome to all of the family and friends who have travelled from near and far to share in today's celebration. Your love, guidance, and support have led Zack and Jess to this day.
It is truly special when we meet someone who fills our hearts with tenderness and sets our lives on a course of shared love and meaning. This is what I see between Zack and Jessica.
Again, we welcome you to the celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Zackary and Jessica Peddicord.
I'd like to offer a blessing before we dine:
God, as you join us today, we ask for your blessings upon Zack and Jessica as they unite in marriage.
Let all their days together be happy and all their words to each other be sweet.
Though their paths are intertwined, let them be aware of each other’s separateness. Bless their home and allow it to be a place of joy and serenity.
Remind them to nurture each other’s body with mutual love, honor and respect. Let your spirit dwell within them.
As they learn from one another, may they grow stronger as individuals and closer as a couple.
And as their wedded life begins today with prayer, so may they continue it, praying for and with each other.
While we loved our cake flavor choices, we especially loved smashing it in each other's faces, haha! If you are on the fence about the cake smashing idea - we say go for it! It was really fun, and makes for awesome photos and video!
Then it was time for toasts from our friends! Our siblings, Julia and Casey, both gave their toasts at the rehearsal dinner. So, my Maid of Honor Sam and Zack's Best Man Dave, along with one of Zack's closest friends Logan who traveled all the way from Macedonia for our wedding, gave our day-of toasts! They were all the perfect mix of sentimental and hilarious - if you can't tell by our reactions!
Zack then ended our dining part of our reception with a thank you to all of our friends and family, and we headed outside for our first dances!
Make sure to watch our beautiful wedding film below to see our cake smash in full swing!
As always, a big thanks to all of our sweet vendors who made our wedding day possible!
