I'm Engaged! Our Proposal Story, Part 1

These words still seem so surreal to type: I'm engaged. I still feel as though someone needs to pinch me and remind me that this is real! I know that every bride must think this, but I truly am the luckiest girl in the world. Exactly one week ago, I had no idea that January 24, 2015 would be the best day of my life, and that it would be the beginning of the most wonderful adventure with the man of my dreams!

There are so many things that led up to this moment captured above. So many secrets that had to be kept, conversations that had to happen without me knowing, and little white lies that had to be told so that I would have no clue as to what was really going to happen.

Zack started planning this moment over two months ago. Being the wonderfully sweet and tradition-keeping man that he is, he stole some alone time with my father while we were visiting my family over Thanksgiving. He told him how much he loved me, and that his intentions were to propose in the near future. At the end of their conversation, Zack received my father's blessing. I have the biggest smile on my face thinking back to how Zack told me my dad responded. My father said, "Zack, you couldn't make it any easier for a father to say yes; you absolutely have my blessing!"

Once he had my dad's blessing, all of the fun planning and scheming was able to begin. He knew that I had always wanted a surprise proposal, so the first step was finding a solid date, while still keeping it a secret at the same time. He knew he wanted my family, his family, and some of my best friends to be in on the top secret plan, and he wanted it all to be caught on camera too. He had his work cut out for him.

Two weeks later, the flights for both my family and my two best friends were booked, the date was set, the plan was in place, everyone was on board, and now all he needed was the ring. To this day, I still have no idea how everyone kept this secret so well for so long!

A week before Christmas, Zack went ring shopping with his brother and sister-in-law. He said he looked at several rings at several stores, but he kept going back to the very first one he asked to see. He said it was THE one! After he got the ring, it was then just a matter of waiting for the big day to come.

Those are all of the details I can share about our proposal story right now! Seeing as I am marrying into the most talented family ever, Zack and I will have the most beautiful photos from the day from my soon-to-be sister-in-law Kristin of KLP Photography and the most amazing video from my soon-to-be brother-in-law Casey of Nicholas & Keaton!! I want to wait until then to share all of the wonderful details about how Zack, our family, and our friends kept everything a secret for months, how I was legitimately so surprised on the big day, and how he asked me to marry him!

I can say that I am the luckiest girl to have found a man who thought to include my family and best friends as a part of our engagement! Having them there to celebrate with us meant the world to me, and is something that I will never forget!

We have started dreaming about some of the key elements of our wedding, but are taking some time to really focus on the two of us and enjoy our time being engaged! I am so excited that I purchased my Southern Weddings Planner to keep track of everything! I love the white, gold, and watercolor details, as well as all of the invaluable information about planning a Southern wedding that is within the pages of this planner.
