Mother's Day 2013
Mother's Day has always been one of my favorite holidays. I love devoting an entire day to cherishing and celebrating my mom, as well as my grandma and all of the other amazing ladies in my life. This year was particularly special, because my sister, mom, grandma, and great aunt came to visit me at Elon! We had lunch and spent the afternoon shopping, and it was so nice to be able to share the day with them even though I am still at school. That's one of the perks of living so close to home!
These are the lovely ladies I got to celebrate with today. My Aunt Marion on the left, mom in the blue shirt, myself, my sister, and my grandma on the right! I knew that I wanted to give my mom and grandma gifts that they would be able to cherish for a long time, and ones that are personal to them. I adore painting, so I decided to paint a little something for each of them this year.
My grandmother and mom's side of the family is from Positano, Italy (where I will be visiting after graduation!), and it is a place we hold dear in our family. My mom visited Positano a few years ago, and took this beautiful picture overlooking the water and the Church our family attended and my Zia Anna and Uncle Jesse were married. So, I decided to make a small canvas painting for her to place on her desk or somewhere in our home to display such a meaningful part of our heritage.
I decided to go a slightly different route for my grandma's gift, and painted a quote that she always says. My grandma loves sending hand written notes, and always signs them with the Italian phrase, "I love you mucha mucha deepa per ta." She was so excited and shocked to see her phrase painted on such a large canvas, which made me thrilled. She has taught me how important it is to tell others you love them, and to live a love focused life, and I cannot thank her enough for that.
Today was such an amazing day. I hope y'all had the chance to celebrate with your moms, grandmas, daughters, granddaughters and other influential women in your lives!
