Sigma Kappa Bid Day 2013
Two weeks ago, Sigma Kappa, Kappa Zeta invited 56 new members into our sorority. 56! That is the biggest new member class we have had thus far. After a week of recruitment and getting to know these girls, it was so exciting to finally welcome them into our home and into our sisterhood!
At Elon, all of the girls who went through recruitment gathered in a room on campus with envelopes that contain an invitation to join a sorority. While that is going on, all of the current members of sororities wait anxiously outside their houses to welcome their new sisters. Sigma Kappa always chants our various chants and songs while we wait, and this year we made large heart signs with our newest sisters' names on them to welcome them!
Bid day is also one of the best photo opps. We always take a picture with our entire sorority, and then divide into each new member class. This is our senior class goofy picture : ) Seniors also always get a senior item, and this year we chose to get cap sacs, which are basically fanny packs for your head.
Above is a picture of my Greek family, and one of two of my best friends.
And this is the lovely Caroline Legin, who is the new member educator for the incoming class of new sisters.
Legin asked me and our friend Emily to help decorate for bid day, and we decided that we wanted to have a fun photo booth area with props for everyone to use! I brought the backdrop that I used in my Valentines Day Breakfast for Two photo shoot, and we crafted various props. My favorite props were the big lips and the pink glasses.
I also made this "when life gives you lemons, put them in your sweet tea and thank the Lord you're a Sigma Kappa" print that we framed and placed next to the drink station. I love it so much that it's currently on a side table in my apartment! Bid day was such a fun day, and I cannot wait to get to know our new sisters better!
