Sigma Kappa's DelEKtable Dessert Bar

In my opinion, dessert is the best part of the day. Don't ya think? Bake sales are a tried and true method of fundraising, and Sigma Kappa has a tradition of hosting an annual glammed-up version of a baked sale that we like to call our dessert bar. This year, we used our Greek letters to coin the name DelEKtable Dessert Bar, and it was undoubtedly one of my favorite events to plan.

Students, faculty, and staff from Elon University were invited to join the sisters of Sigma Kappa at the DelEKtable Dessert Bar on November 1st. All of the sweets were baked personally by our sisters, which added a nice, homey touch to the event. Everyone could choose to enjoy one treat for $1, or a plate of up to five treats for $3. All of the proceeds benefitted the Sigma Kappa Foundation and Alzheimer's disease research.

We had a variety of sweets, from cupcakes and cookies to cake pops and white chocolate covered oreos. I made the white chocolate covered oreos and I know I'll be making more soon- they were delicious! I also crafted the flags that topped each cupcake. Washi tape, glitter tape, scissors and toothpicks can really spruce up traditional sweets!

I made these food labels out of pink sparkle paper and printable labels, both found at Michaels. We placed them in front of each dessert to specify the type of treat.

Just as in our PerfEKt Pizza Dinner event, I knew I had to use some striped straws to accompany our pink lemonade. They added the perfect pop of fun if you ask me.

However, the main attraction at our event was the giant cupcake that was for sale! Everyone marveled at this oversized, glorified treat baked by my roommate. We sold the cupcake for $10!

Everyone had a blast at the dessert bar, and we helped to raise money and awareness for Alzheimer's disease research. Don't see your favorite type of sweet pictured above? Comment below and let me know what treat you'd love for Sigma Kappa to have at next year's DelEKtable Dessert Bar!
