Yep, you read it correctly. I had my first golf "lessons" today! I say "lessons" because I didn't actually pay an instructor to teach me, I went to a driving range with a guy I know instead. I think that's a cheaper, nicer alternative :) My grandpa and Uncle Joe are probably both frustrated and overjoyed at the same time that I finally decided I want to learn how to play. I cannot even begin to recall how many times they egged me on when I was young, begging me to let them teach me the game. But, I was insistently stubborn and refused to even pretend to swing a fake golf club because I was positive that golf would be "booooring". And honestly, it might have been for a six year old girl.
But, I actually had a fun time today! I'll admit that my competitive nature really came out in full force when I was trying to learn and couldn't quite grasp how to stand and swing the club in a way that would drive the ball straight, far, and high. And that just made me grasp the club harder out of frustration, which ended up giving me two fairly uncomfortable blisters. Oops.
When we made it about 3/4 of the way through our basket of golf balls, I finally began to make a few decent swings. And my final swing was really good, which let me rest a bit easier knowing that I must've learned something today. But hey, I had a pretty good teacher! I think we're going to go again sometime soon and possibly even play on an actual golf course. Next time I won't grasp the golf club quite so hard. Or I'll invest in a glove. That might be the safer alternative for my fingers.
As promised, I have chosen a quote of the day from one of the books I purchased yesterday. Today's quote is from the "love life" book. It's called love new things, and the quote is, "The firsts go away- first love, first baby, fist kiss. You have to create new ones." -Sarah Jessica Parker.
I thought this one was fitting because I loved learning something new today. And I guess, if I'm being completely honest with myself, my golf lesson was also a first date with this boy. So that's something new to enjoy too :)
Finally, I'll end with a video from Southern Weddings that also celebrates loving new things. It's a video, filmed by The Reason, of Melanie and Cale's precious wedding ceremony and reception. The entire thing just seems so full of love, enjoyment, and celebration of this couple's new beginning. I can't seem to figure out how to get the actual video on this post, so feel free to check it out here!
Today was a blast and I'm going to try to get some sleep before a nice day with everyone tomorrow for Father's Day. Night all!
