Italy Vacation: Cinque Terre

On our second day in Florence, my mom and I decided that it would be fun to take a day trip to Cinque Terre. We were already missing the salt water and colorful houses that filled Positano, and heard that Cinque Terre was extremely similar. So, we signed up for a tour, hopped on a bus, and off we went! Cinque Terre, or "The Five Lands" is composed of five villages- Manarola, Riomaggiore, Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, and Corniglia. We went to the first four villages, but were unable to travel to Corniglia. In order to get to the main land of Corniglia, you have to climb 400 steps, and our tour guide did not think that was best suited to do on a warm summer day.

The first village we arrived at was Manarola. As you can see, beautifully colored houses and shops line the winding roads, just as we were hoping.

It is also right on the water, which was the most gorgeous shade of blue-green. It was fantastic to simply walk around and soak in the natural beauty of the area.

We then took a quick train ride to Riomaggiore, which was very similar to Manarola as you can see from the picture above.

After Riomaggiore, we took a boat ride to the farthest village- Monterosso. The boat ride was especially nice because we were able to see Riomaggiore, Corniglia, Vernazza, and Monterosso from the water, which provided stunning views.

Riomaggiore al Mare was my absolute favorite! We enjoyed a delicious lunch of pesto pasta, fish, and gelatto, went shopping for some local honey (which is so delectable) and then had the chance to relax on the beach for almost an hour. If I were to ever go back to Cinque Terre, I would most likely spend all of my time in this village.

Our last stop was in Vernazza, where we walked around by the water and went into a few local shops. And, we finally got a couple of pictures of the two of us! Please excuse my green bathing suit since this portion of the trip was after the beach!

I absolutely adored how quaint Cinque Terre is. If you are ever in Florence and want to escape the city for a day to look at natural beauty, I would highly recommend coming here.
