Making Things Happen in 2013- Goal Setting Part 1 Continued

InspirationJessica Clinch9 Comments

On the last day of 2012, I began the process of completing Lara Casey's Making Things Happen in 2013 Goal Setting series. I claimed that I was going to finish the series within the month of January, but never quite found the time to dedicate to doing so. Now that I am going to be attending the Making Things Happen Intensive conference next month, I am eager to sit down and work wholeheartedly on this project! Part 1 of Lara's goal setting series asked us to do three things. The first step was to take a look back on 2012 and reflect on what worked that year- what we made happen and what we were grateful for. You can see my response to this step here.

The second step was to reflect on what didn't work in 2012. This one was a bit harder, but here is my list:

  1. Doing before thinking. Sometimes being impulsive is a good thing (while hanging out with friends and family), but I have found that logically thinking about major work or life decisions always produces a better outcome.Β
  2. Placing importance on things that don't matter as much as I think they do. To go to the gym for an hour or hang out with friends and make memories for an hour? I can always make time for the little things later- focusing on friendship should always come first.
  3. Not devoting enough time to God and going to church. That's never smart.
  4. Judging others. What good ever comes from that? Nothing, which is why I gave it up for Lent this year.
  5. Not taking the time to call my siblings/dad/grandparents. I frequently talk to my mom, but I need to remember to call the other important people in my family as well to catch up with them.
  6. Eating out so often. Seriously, it breaks the bank. I need to focus more on home cooking in 2013.
  7. On that note, not sticking to a budget and focusing on my finances. Spending money on petty things needs to stop so I can make room for what is necessary and important.
  8. Not writing things in my agenda and/or making lists. This is similar to #1- a lack of organization leads to a cluttered mind.
  9. Not getting enough sleep. I need to focus more on getting rest when I have the chance.
  10. Worrying about what others will think of me rather than just being my true self and having my work reflect that.

The third step is my favorite! Lara asked us to think about what fires us up. She asked us to think of 50 things, and then make a Pinterest board based on this step. Here is my Pinterest board, and here is my list of 50 things that fire me up:
