Sigma Kappa, Kappa Zeta's Involvement in the 2012 Alamance Walk to End Alzheimer's

This weekend was absolutely fantastic. It was family weekend at Elon, and it was also a weekend filled with philanthropy events. I had been planning these events for months, and was so excited to see them finally come to life. Take a look at our Walk to End Alzheimer's event:

Walk to End Alzheimer's

Saturday morning was our Walk to End Alzheimer's in downtown Burlington, NC. The walk was planned by the Alamance chapter of the National Alzheimer's Association, however I helped to lead my Kappa Zeta chapter of Sigma Kappa in this walk. It is an event that our chapter participates in each year, and we love the chance to walk alongside our local community to raise money and awareness for Alzheimer's disease research.

We all gathered downtown at 10 AM to register for the Walk, fuel up with some bananas and granola bars, bid on items in their silent auction, and dance around in the rain (it always seems to rain during family weekend!).

Then, around 10:45 AM we listened to a panel of speakers, including those on the committee planning the walk. I was invited to give a speech on behalf of being an advocate of Alzheimer's disease research and shared my personal story about walking to fight for a cure in loving memory of my grandma Dorothy Clinch, who lived withย dementiaย for 8 years.

After that, it was time to walk! It was actually quite fun to walk in the rain, and we all walked in a large group completing one lap around the streets of downtown Burlington holding our flower pinwheels high. This is one of my favorite pictures from the walk!

The sisters of Sigma Kappa, Kappa Zeta were thrilled to complete this walk and know that we truly made an impact on Alzheimer's disease research. In total, our chapter raised $4,315 for the Walk to End Alzheimer's, which was a record high for our chapter. I'm so proud of all of my sister's and happy to call myself the VP of Philanthropic Service for this amazing group of women!
