Yep, you read that correctly- I signed up to run in a race! The Charlotte Color Run on November 17th to be exact. Yes, I understand that means I will have to give up my beloved elliptical in the nice, air conditioned gym to start running outdoors to train for this 5K. I feel silly saying that I need to train to run 3 miles, but running outdoors has never been a strength of mine. I just get winded so easily! However, if you take a look at the description and the video of this 5K, you'll understand why I jumped at the chance to sign up for it this morning. Here's the description straight from the Charlotte Color Run website:
The Color Run is a one of a kind experience that is less about speed and more about enjoying a color crazy day with your friends and family. The Color Run is about toeing the line with participants of all different speeds, ages, shapes, and sizes. Everyone from Olympic athletes to casual morning walkers will cover most enjoyable 3 miles of real estate you’ve traveled in a VERY long time. You will love this Color 5k of fun!
They don't include this in the description, but what makes the event "colorful" is that there are volunteers throughout the race who throw some sort of colored powder on you. You start the race in a white t-shirt and come out looking like a tie-dyed rainbow! Just looking at the picture used in their advertising gets me excited to begin training!
I haven't gotten a chance to exercise much recently since I've been so devoted to my internship and my online financial accounting course. But, luckily the course ends on Friday and I'll be able to get back into the swing of working out because it's truly a stress reliever for me. I feel so out of it now that I havent been in the gym for a while.
Anywho, back to the point of this. I'm extra excited to run this 5K because it benefits the local Habitat for Humanity. You'll bet that I'll always be more inclined to be involved in something that benefits a charity. It just makes me feel good to know that my little run will help benefit someone else!
I still haven't quite figured out how to include a video on my blog (if you know how, please leave a comment below!). But, I'd highly suggest that you watch this video of the Color Run to get a better sense of what I'll be doing along with a group of my friends. And sign up yourself in a city near you! The slots fill up fast so if you want to run, ya better hurry up and secure your spot!!
Since this training is something new I'll be adding to my routine this summer and fall, I felt it appropriate to include a quote from Love Life about loving new beginnings. It reads,
With every rising of the sun, think of your life as just begun. -Unknown
Isn't that a fun way to look at life? Although I've never considered myself to be much of a runner, that doesn't mean I can't start becoming the best runner I can be today. It's very inspirational and a quote I'd like to commit to memory.
