SJM ShopJessica ClinchComment

I'm refocusing my vision for the SJM Shop for 2017, and am excited to announce some new product ideas and designs later this Spring/Summer! In the meantime, I am sifting through my current shop listings and have made some changes to the shop.

I have created a category in the shop called Last Chance! - which is full of pieces that will only be available through this Friday, February 10! After Friday at midnight, the pieces will disappear from the SJM Shop for good, in order to make room for the new products that will be coming later this year.

Interested in getting an exclusive hint at what products I'll be adding? Sign up for the SJM Newsletter to be the first to know what I'm designing next. I'll be sending an email this evening to give y'all a glimpse into my ideas book!

If you love making the ordinary days a bit more extraordinary like I do, why not bring a little bit of it into your home decor?

I have officially decided to release an art print from the 2017 Cocktail Calendar each month, featuring the cocktail coordinating with that month from the calendar! The art prints will debut during the first week of each month, making it the perfect way to toast to the start of the month!

This Cosmopolitan watercolor cocktail art print would be the perfect addition to your kitchen or bar cart, darling! It will be right at home next to your oh-so-gorg champagne flutes and collection of gold foil coasters. These art prints are available in 8x10 and 11x14 sizes, perfect for apartments and homes alike.

Classic French 75 Cocktail Recipe

Recipes, SJM Shop, LifestyleJessica ClinchComment

Sipping a French 75 immediately transforms me into a sophisticated, cocktail dress wearing lady reminiscent of 20's style glamour, even if I'm just at home in jeans and a t-shirt. There is something about this cocktail that exudes class and coolness, which is probably why it is the most fitting cocktail for New Years' Eve!

CLASSIC FRENCH 75 COCKTAIL RECIPE

serves 1

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 lemon
  • 3 tablespoons (or 1 1/2 ounces) of gin
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons (or 3/4 ounce) of fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon (or 1/2 ounce) of simple syrup
  • 1 cup of ice cubes
  • 1/4 cup (or 2 ounces) of dry champagne (my favorite is Freixenet Brut), chilled

DIRECTIONS

  1. Slice the lemon with a paring knife to form a long, thin spiral. Save this as garnish for your cocktail! Keep the rest of the lemon to squeeze your lemon juice.
  2. In your cocktail shaker, combine the gin, simply syrup, lemon juice, and ice. Shake vigorously for about 20 seconds.
  3. Strain the cocktail concoction from your shaker into a chilled champagne flute, and top with your champagne.
  4. Curl the lemon peel spiral around your finger to twist it into a 6" garnish. Add to champagne flute, and serve immediately! Enjoy!

Comparing Wedding Postage Options | Standard USPS Postage, Custom Postage, and Vintage Postage Stamps

Learning, WeddingsJessica Clinch1 Comment

Last week, I shared all about how to calculate how much postage you need for wedding invitations, along with the 2017 postage rate increase. While I know that isn't the most glamorous topic in the world, it's an important one to ensure the beautiful wedding invitations you have poured your time and personalities into arrive safely in the mailboxes of your loved ones!

So today I wanted to share a fun little freebie resource with y'all - my top three favorite sources for wedding postage! Now that you have a better understanding of how much postage you'll need to order, we get to chat about the fun part - picking the perfect postage style for your wedding stationery!

MY TOP 3 SOURCES FOR WEDDING POSTAGE

USPS

While the wedding stamps from the post office are normally fairly ho-hum, USPS is really stepping up their game this year with a beautiful variety of new standard postage stamp options! I love that they are particularly keeping weddings in mind with their new stamp designs.

When I first saw these Oscar de la Renta postage stamps, my heart literally jumped out of my chest! He has always been, and will always be, one of my absolute favorite designers. While I didn't wear one of his wedding gowns on our big day, you can bet my bottom dollar that I tried one on while dress shopping just for fun!

Even if you aren't donning an Oscar de la Renta wedding gown, you can still enjoy his sassy prints and gorgeous style through the postage stamps on your save the dates, wedding invitations, and response card envelopes. They are perfect for the fashion forward, color-loving bride. The Oscar de la Renta USPS postage stamps are currently available for pre-order, and will be released for sale on February 16, 2017.

Another one of my forever-favorites (insert eye roll over punny forever stamp joke) is the Botanical Art postage stamp collection. I used these cuties on my bridal shower invitations and loved them! They are perfect for spring weddings or anyone with an adoration of farmer's market flowers, don't ya think?

Perks about USPS postage: Most affordable stamp option, a new variety of beautiful designs, limited choices allow for easy decision-making

Cons about USPS postage: Since the variety is limited, the pretty postage options often sell out quickly, limited choices mean less ability to showcase personality through your postage

ZAZZLE

Zazzle has a great selection of unique pre-designed postage from a variety of designers. They have specific sections on their website for save the date postage stamps, wedding postage stamps, and even rsvp postage stamps! I used one of their save the date postage stamps for our save the dates, and was even able to customize the shade of pink to perfectly match the peony color I was incorporating throughout our wedding designs!

The wonderful thing about Zazzle is that you can also create completely custom postage! If you are working with a custom stationer, ask him or her to see if they are able to create a unique postage stamp design for y'all incorporating one of your artistic elements from your designs. Custom postage is slightly more expensive, but it is a great way to showcase your wedding aesthetic even before your guests open the envelope!

Perks about Zazzle postage: Unique or completely custom stamp options, stamp options to fit each part of your wedding stationery, the ability to perfectly match your stamp color to your wedding stationery color palette, easy postage pricing guide within their ordering system

Cons about Zazzle postage: The barcode on their postage stamps is a little tacky (but a birdie told me that it waves the hand canceling fee - I'm researching more on this and will update y'all soon!), the pricing is a bit more expensive than standard USPS postage

VERDE STUDIO VINTAGE STAMPS

My personal favorite postage stamp type to recommend is vintage postage stamps! While they are a bit more expensive, and require multiple postage stamps to add up to the postage amount you'll need per envelope, they truly do help to tell your story even before your guests open their envelopes!

My favorite source for vintage stamps is Verde Studio on Etsy. Virginia, the shop owner, is a sweet friend of mine and has the most beautiful collection! She has some already curated collections, but I would recommend reaching out to her for her to create a custom collection that matches your color palette and personalities!

I designed the above invitation suite for The School of Styling, and we selected vintage postage from Verde Studio that matched the blush, grey, and gold color palette we were working with for this suite.

I also love finding stamps that help to literally tell your love story! In the photo of our wedding invitations above, you'll notice a few different types of stamps. One was a lace stamp, to hint at the fact that the blue lace pattern in our invitations was mimicking my wedding gown pattern (something that only my mom and I knew!), the love letter stamp with the red rose both hinted at the love letters Zack and I used to exchange (which became a part of our invitation design) and the single red rose he brought to me on our first date, and the Tennessee stamp hinted at the state in which we fell in love and were going to get married! See what I mean by telling your story through your stamps?

Perks about vintage postage: Truly unique postage options, the ability to mix and match colors to best fit your wedding palette, stamp illustrations that can help to best tell your love story, a nod to the art of love letters and the past

Cons about vintage postage: Vintage postage is the most expensive wedding postage option, finding the perfect stamps to fit your wedding style and to add up to the exact amount you need per invitation can be confusing (but that's where Virginia comes in, she's a great help with that!)

Pro Tip: If you love the look of custom or vintage postage but can't afford it for all of your wedding stationery, use standard USPS postage for your save the dates and response card envelopes, and save custom or vintage postage for your invitation envelopes! They are likely the envelopes that most of your guests will keep, as they will probably be adorned with beautiful calligraphy, too - so make them the star of the show!

I hope this helps you narrow down your choices as to which wedding postage option would be the best fit for your wedding stationery! If you have any questions about postage stamp options or how to choose the best type for your designs, feel free to leave a comment below!

If you are interested in beginning your custom wedding stationery design process with me, I would love to hear more about you, your sweetie, and your wedding! Please complete the Custom Design Questionnaire on this page, and I will be in touch shortly after reviewing your responses. I can't wait to get to know you two better soon, and create beautiful heirloom wedding stationery for y'all to cherish for years to come!

Best Southern Wedding Cake Bakeries

Our Wedding, Weddings, FeaturesJessica ClinchComment

Living in Tennessee (and, ya know, being a 21st century girl), I have a huge love of Reese Witherspoon and her darling brand, Draper James. Their attention to detail, witty southern phrases, and classic style is enough to win over the heart of any Southern girl. So, when I heard the news that they are launching a wedding collection at the end of this month, I literally almost leapt out of my seat with excitement!

In celebration of their launch, the Draper James ladies are sharing their absolute favorite Southern wedding details. Last week they shared a blog post all about the best Southern wedding cake bakeries, and asked me to share my favorite! I of course had to chat all about Art of Cakes Bakery in Maryville, Tennessee, since they did such a beautiful job making our wedding cake!

Here's a little snippet into what was shared on the Draper James blog:

Artist and designer Jessica Peddicord of Simply Jessica Marie makes a living designing custom wedding paintings and invitations. So it’s no surprise she’d be fastidious about the cake for her own recent nuptials. She says: “Art of Cakes Bakery provided the two most important details we were looking for in our wedding cake: light fluffy layers paired with rich, unique flavors, and an artistic approach to cake design. Our two-tier English toffee and strawberry cake with a dusty blue base adorned with sweeping gold brushstrokes was the perfect nod to both our fun whimsical personalities and my love of painting!”

There are 20 other amazing wedding cake bakeries on the Draper James blog for you to browse through, in states including North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Texas (which I can't wait to try once we move to Dallas!), and more.

Do you have a favorite cake bakery? If so, leave a comment with their info below so we can support them!
